Senior Project Accountant: Addis Ababa
Project Related
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Federal Government of Ethiopia implements a Sustainable Land Management Programme in 6 Regions. Within this programme 18 Woredas in 3 Regions: Amhara, Oromia and Tigray, are supported by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD). GITEC-Consult and AMBERO-Consulting of Germany provide consultancy services to the project and require the services of a Senior Accountant to be based at the Ministry of Agriculture in Gurde Shola, Addis Ababa. The successful applicant will be required to start work as soon as possible.

Responsibilities
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the daily accounting and finance function, and maintain accurate financial records and reports in accordance with GAAP principles:
    Preparing monthly cash projections, cash advances, payments, reimbursements etc.;
    Reconciling monthly activity, generating reports and fulfilling tax related requirements;
    Managing payroll, monthly summaries, payroll receipts and payments;
    Monitoring and supervising expenditure by project and by activities;
    Assisting in preparation of work plan, budgets, and estimates of quarterly expenditure;
    Preparing draft monthly, quarterly and annual expenditure reports;
    Liaising with other staff and external financial units as required;
    Prepare monthly cash and bank reconciliation statements;
    Performing other relevant duties as may be required.

Required Profile

The successful applicant will have at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting or finance. Further education (ACCA or similar) will be looked upon favourably. S/he will have a minimum of 5 years effective professional experience in accounting, cash management, budget monitoring and planning. Reasonable fluency in the English language and experience in an international working environment is desirable; experience in projects funded by international financial institutions such as World Bank or KfW is preferred. Experience with working in the G0E environment is an asset. Computer literacy and experience of QuickBooks or PeachTree is required.
