Purpose of the Position
Under the supervision of Chief Field Office - Benishangul Gumuz Gambela, the incumbent supports Benishangul Gumuz Regional Health Bureau in strengthening the Nutrition interventions in the region (both emergency and developmental programmes).
Specific Tasks of the Nutrition officer

    Provide technical support to the RHB and DPFS to deliver all nutrition interventions in the region: EOS; CMAM, IYCF, Multi-sectoral nutrition coordination and nutrition technical committee activities,
    Work closely with the RHB and DPFS to identify gaps in progress and response as appropriate,
    Provide technical support through capacity building -training on CMAM, IYCF and EOS/CHD as required for HWs and HEWs at all levels.
    Ensure proper use of budget by the RHB and DPFS & assist timely liquidation of DCT forwarded to the region,
    Prepare micro-plan for EOS, IYCF and CMAM activities with the RHB, DPFS office, and ensure timely request of funding from UNICEF Ethiopia office,
    Provide on the job monitoring and supervision on all nutrition programs being supported by UNICEF, jointly with RHB and DPFS counterparts,
    Support the expansion of CMAM activities in health centres and health posts to promote optimal coverage,
    Build the capacity of the regional and woreda health offices to manage and utilise EOS/CHD, CMAM & IYCF data to monitor trends, performance and trigger response needs,
    Track all request and distribution activities and use of the Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and other CMAM supplies, liaising closely with UNICEF nutrition specialist in Addis (NOC).
    Establish and support mother-to-mother support groups and ensure their effectiveness on promoting IYCF practices through strengthening of the health development army (HDA),
    As the IYCFE focal point, ensure IYCFE strategy and activities are effectively rolled out to protect infants and young children in emergency context- in host communities, and when required in the refugee context working through partners
    Assist in the preparation and submission of monthly CMAM and IYCF reports from health posts and health centres to PHCU, PHCU to woreda and woreda to RHB and UNICEF Benshangul Gumuz field office.
    Assist RHB the timely reporting of EOS data collected from each woreda, complied at regional level and compilation of Regional report for RHB and UNICEF Addis,
    Support/establish Health and Nutrition task force/ technical working group at woreda and zonal levels. Represent UNICEF at Regional meetings regularly zonal meetings periodically. Compile action points for UNICEF and RHB to direct monthly activities. Share minutes with UNICEF Addis Nutrition specialist (NOC).
    Attend monthly review meeting with UNICEF Area Programme Support Team (APST) chief and RHB as required.
    Facilitate/support woreda level quarterly nutrition review meeting
    Liaise with the Health, DPFS and WASH officers to align implementation of UNICEF supported programs.
    Facilitate Donor Visit and facilitate joint monitoring with AA Section experts as required
 Expected Deliverables
    Monthly travel plans (last week of each month for the next month) submitted as per approved quality/specification
    Consolidated EOS report showing VAS, DW & NS performance coverage per woreda, post EOS campaign as per specification outlined above
    Monthly update provided by database on capacity building of health workers and health extension workers trained on SAM management and IYCF/E, CMAM expansion and MTMSGs established in the Region.
    Minutes of monthly and ad hoc regional level coordination and nutrition task force meetings.
    Monthly work-plans with RHB and UNICEF Benishangul Gumuz office (last week of each month)
    Activity progress report every six months and final report with key recommendations to UNICEF and RHB on future nutrition interventions implementation.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

    University degree in public health and/or nutrition or clinical nursing **
    A proven track record of at least 2 years work experience in nutrition programmes and management of severe acute malnutrition and IYCF with particular interest of working in developing regional states.
    Experience in organizing and supporting large scale campaigns where essential health & nutrition services are delivered to children under five,
    Experience in capacity building of health staff at various levels, especially in training health workers in CMAM and IYCF,
    Proven ability to work in a team in close collaboration with RHB and other counterparts,
    Strong planning and analytical skills, data management skills, high degree of self-motivation and a task and output oriented work ethic,
    Excellent spoken and written English,
    Communication with regional working language is an advantage.
